By Nurse Jenny
Welcome to the third and final installment of my journey. If you’ve been following along in our series, you know that my path to health wasn’t a straight line. It was a winding road filled with 12-hour hospital shifts, cold caffeine, emotional eating, and the constant struggle to balance my career with my well-being. But today, I’m not here to talk about the struggle. I’m here to talk about the success.
In this guide, we’re diving deep into the ultimate roadmap for weight loss for women. We are looking at the results, the mindset shifts that actually stick, and how you can maintain your motivation when the initial "new year, new me" energy starts to fade.
At Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., we believe that weight loss isn't just about the number on the scale; it’s about the "Hungry Brain." It’s about how your mood, your biology, and your food all intersect.
The Turning Point: From Breathless to Breathless (In a Good Way!)
For a long time, I was the nurse who was breathless just walking from the nurse's station to a patient’s room. At my heaviest, 268 pounds felt like an anchor. My joints ached, and honestly, my spirit was tired. I knew the clinical side of weight loss, but applying it to my own life felt impossible.
The "success" didn't happen because I found a magic pill. It happened when I stopped treating my body like a problem to be solved and started treating it like a system to be understood. By focusing on the brain-body hack, I realized that my mind was the key to permanent change.
Through a combination of evidence-based clinical support, a focus on metabolic psychiatry, and, most importantly, consistency, I lost 100 pounds. And let me tell you, the view from here is incredible.

Why Weight Loss for Women is a Unique Challenge
Let's be real: weight loss for women is a different beast. We have hormonal fluctuations, different metabolic rates, and often, the heavy lifting of emotional labor at home and work.
Many women come to us at Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc. feeling like they’ve failed every diet on the planet. But here is the truth: the diets failed you. Most traditional plans don’t account for the female endocrine system or the psychological impact of emotional eating.
1. The Power of Strength Training
One of the biggest contributors to my success was moving away from hours of "dreadmill" cardio and toward strength training. As women, we are often told to stay "light," but lifting weights changed my metabolic baseline. It allowed me to burn more energy at rest and gave me the physical strength to handle my demanding shifts. In fact, my coworkers started calling me "the bodybuilder" because I was the one they called to help with the heavy lifting on the floor!
2. Clinical Supervision: The Ultimate "Hack"
I am a nurse, but I didn't do this alone. I utilized the same evidence-based tools we offer at our clinic. Whether it’s exploring oral GLP-1 options or receiving clinical supervision, having a safety net is what prevents the "yo-yo" effect. When you have a professional team monitoring your metabolic health, you aren't guessing, you’re succeeding.
Real Results: It’s More Than Just a Number
When we talk about weight loss for women, we often fixate on the scale. But the true success stories are found in the "Non-Scale Victories" (NSVs).
- Mental Clarity: No more brain fog. By stabilizing my blood sugar and addressing the "Hungry Brain," I became sharper at work.
- Emotional Resilience: I stopped using food to cope with the stress of the ICU. I learned to stop the cycle of emotional eating.
- Professional Impact: I went from feeling like a hypocrite giving health advice to being a living example of it for my patients.

Staying Motivated: How to Keep the Momentum
"How do you stay motivated?" is the question I get asked most often. The answer is simple: I stopped relying on motivation and started relying on systems.
Motivation is a feeling, and feelings are fickle. Systems are habits.
- Meal Prep without the Stress: I stopped trying to be a gourmet chef. I stuck to 7 healthy dinners under 30 minutes to ensure I always had a plan, even after a double shift.
- Community Support: You cannot do this in a vacuum. Surround yourself with people who understand the mission. This is why we created our specialized programs.
- Address the Stress: Stress is a weight-loss killer. If you don't address the mistakes you're making with stress eating, the weight will always find a way back.

Final Thoughts from Nurse Jenny
My 100-pound weight loss was a marathon, not a sprint. It required me to look at my trauma, my habits, and my biology. If you are struggling today, please know that I have been exactly where you are. I have felt that hopelessness. But I am living proof that with the right wellness coach and a clinical approach that honors your mind, change is possible.
