Hi there! I’m Nurse Jenny, and I am so glad you’re here. If you’ve been following our series, you know that at Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., we don’t just look at weight as a number on a scale. We look at the whole person, your history, your biology, and your beautiful, complex mind.
As a blonde, youthful nurse who’s seen the ups and downs of the healthcare journey, I know how intimidating it can be to start something new, especially online. You might be wondering: Is medical weight loss telehealth just a quick prescription? Or is it a real clinical experience?
Today, we’re peeling back the curtain on Comprehensive Evaluations. This is Part 2 of our series, and it is the most critical step in ensuring your journey is safe, effective, and tailored specifically to you. We aren't here to give you a "quick fix" and send you on your way. We are here to provide a clinical safety net.
Let’s dive into the five things you absolutely need to know about what a real, evidence-based evaluation looks like in the world of medical weight loss telehealth.
1. This Isn’t a Five-Minute Chat: It’s a Deep Dive
When you search for medical weight loss telehealth, you might see ads promising a prescription in minutes. At Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., we do things differently. A truly comprehensive evaluation is a thorough assessment of your entire health landscape.
Typically, your initial telehealth consultation will last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. Why so long? Because we need to talk about:
- Your Health History: We look at where you’ve been to understand where you’re going.
- Previous Weight Loss Efforts: What worked? What didn’t? What felt sustainable?
- Your Lifestyle: Your sleep, your stress levels, and your daily habits are all pieces of the puzzle.
- Body Metrics: We discuss your weight and BMI (Body Mass Index) not to judge, but to establish a baseline.
This is a space of empathy and zero judgment. We want to understand the "why" behind your goals. Whether you’re looking to manage emotional eating or simply feel more at home in your body, this first hour is where we build our partnership.

2. Baseline Laboratory Testing is Your Safety Net
You might think that because we are meeting via video, we can’t look under the hood. That’s simply not true! Baseline lab work is a non-negotiable component of a safe medical weight loss program.
Before we even think about prescribing medications like GLP-1s (Semaglutide or Tirzepatide), we need to see what’s happening in your blood. These labs help us establish your metabolic health baseline. We look at:
- Blood Glucose & A1C: To see how your body processes sugar.
- Cholesterol Levels: To assess cardiovascular health.
- Kidney and Liver Function: To ensure your body can safely process any treatments.
- Thyroid Function: To rule out other underlying causes of weight changes.
Some telehealth services might skip this step, but we believe clinical supervision is the ultimate GLP-1 hack. We repeat these labs at the 3-month mark to monitor your progress and make sure your metabolic markers are moving in the right direction. It’s all about your safety and long-term well-being.
3. Understanding the Eligibility Criteria
Not everyone is a candidate for medical weight loss medications, and a comprehensive evaluation is where we determine your eligibility. This is guided by evidence-based clinical standards.
Generally, you may qualify for medical weight loss if:
- You have a BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater.
- You have a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater AND a weight-related medical condition, such as hypertension (high blood pressure) or type 2 diabetes.
During our comprehensive evaluation, we also screen for obesity-related conditions that you might not even realize are connected. If you have a complicated medical history, like advanced heart disease, we’ll talk through whether telehealth is the right fit or if you need a specialized in-person co-management plan. Our goal is to set you up for success, not just for a month, but for a lifetime.

4. Medication Assessment and "Risk Stratification"
"Risk Stratification" sounds like a heavy clinical term, but it’s actually a very compassionate process. It means we look at your specific health profile to find the treatment that carries the most benefit with the least risk for you.
Not every medication is right for every person. During your evaluation, we assess whether you are a better fit for:
- Oral GLP-1s: Which are becoming a major trend in 2026 for women who prefer to skip the needle.
- Injectable Semaglutide or Tirzepatide: Depending on your metabolic needs and medical history.
- Other Antiobesity Medications: Tailored to your specific "Hungry Brain" profile.
We don't just "pick" a drug; we clinically define the dosing timeline and selection based on the data we gathered in your labs and your history. This is personalized medicine at its best.
5. It’s an Ongoing Relationship, Not a One-Time Event
The evaluation doesn't end when the first video call hangs up. In fact, that’s just the beginning. Medical weight loss telehealth is about continuous monitoring.
After your initial assessment, we stay connected through:
- Follow-up Appointments: Usually every one to four weeks when we are adjusting your dose.
- Metric Tracking: We monitor your weight change percentage, blood pressure, and how you’re feeling overall.
- Symptom Management: If you experience side effects, we are here to adjust your plan immediately.
This ongoing support is what differentiates a "prescription mill" from a dedicated healthcare provider like Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc. We are your partners in this, helping you navigate plateaus and celebrating every victory along the way.
