The Friendly Face of Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc.

Hi everyone! I’m Nurse Jenny, and if you’ve been following our journey here at Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., you know that we don’t look at health through a tiny keyhole. We look at the whole person. We know that your mental health, your hormones, and your physical body are all part of one big, beautiful, and sometimes complicated system.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything "right", counting the calories, hitting the treadmill, drinking the water, but the scale just won’t budge, I want you to take a deep breath. You aren't failing. Your body might just be stuck in a stress loop.
Today, I want to talk about one of the most transformative parts of our wellness program: Instructor Jasmine’s daily 2 PM Mindful Movement Flow. It’s not just "another yoga class." It’s a calculated, evidence-based intervention designed to hack your biology and reset your brain for sustainable success.
The Afternoon Slump: More Than Just Fatigue
We’ve all been there. It’s 2:00 PM. You’ve had your lunch, you’re halfway through your workday, and suddenly, the "slump" hits. For many of us, this is the moment we reach for a third cup of coffee or a sugary snack to push through.
But from a metabolic psychiatry perspective, 2:00 PM is a critical crossroads. This is often when our cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone, starts to fluctuate. If you’ve been running on high alert all morning, your cortisol levels are likely peaking, signaling to your body that it needs to "store energy" (usually as belly fat) because it senses a "threat."
This is why mindful movement for weight loss is so much more effective than high-intensity punishing workouts during periods of high stress. Instructor Jasmine’s flow is specifically timed to catch you at this crossroads, pivoting your nervous system from "fight or flight" to "rest and digest."

Why Cortisol is the "Weight Loss Thief"
Let’s get a little clinical for a moment, but I'll keep it simple. Cortisol is essential for life, but chronic elevation is the enemy of weight loss. When you are stressed, your body releases cortisol, which increases glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream. If you aren't actually running away from a saber-toothed tiger, that extra energy doesn't get used. Instead, insulin steps in to whisk that sugar away, straight into your fat cells.
Furthermore, high cortisol levels suppress your thyroid function and mess with your hunger hormones, leptin and ghrelin. This is why you feel "stress-hungry" even after a full meal. You can read more about this in our article on understanding emotional eating.
Instructor Jasmine’s 2 PM Flow isn't about burning 500 calories in 20 minutes. It’s about lowering that cortisol spike. By calming the nervous system through intentional movement and breathwork, Jasmine helps your body realize it is safe. When the body feels safe, it stops hoarding fat.
Mindful Movement for Weight Loss: How It Works
So, what exactly happens in Jasmine’s session?
Jasmine uses a blend of gentle yoga, somatic stretching, and mindful breathing. Unlike a gym class where a coach is screaming at you to "push harder," Jasmine invites you to "feel deeper."
- The Breath Connection: Each movement is anchored to a specific breath pattern. This stimulates the vagus nerve, which acts as the "off switch" for your stress response.
- Somatic Release: We hold a lot of our emotional trauma and stress in our hips and shoulders. Jasmine’s flow focuses on releasing these "storage centers," which can provide an immediate sense of emotional relief.
- The Mind-Body Bridge: By focusing entirely on the sensation of the movement, you stop the ruminating thoughts about work, bills, or family stress. This mental break is as important for weight loss as the physical movement itself.
This approach is a core pillar of our Brain-Body Hack, where we prioritize the mind as the primary tool for physical transformation.

Meet Your Guide: Instructor Jasmine
Jasmine is more than a fitness instructor; she is a specialist in the intersection of movement and mental health. She understands that for many of our clients, exercise has historically felt like a punishment for what they ate or a chore to be endured.
Her 2 PM Flow is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of fitness level. You don’t need fancy leggings or a dedicated studio. Many of our clients join from their home offices or living rooms. The goal isn't flexibility in your hamstrings (though that’s a nice bonus!); the goal is flexibility in your nervous system.
When you join Jasmine, you aren't just working out. You are participating in a daily ritual of self-compassion. This shift in mindset, from "I have to lose weight" to "I am taking care of my peace", is where the real magic happens.
A Three-Part Journey to Wellness
This blog post is the first in a three-part series exploring how we integrate movement, psychiatry, and nutrition at Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc. In our next installment, we will dive deeper into the specific yoga poses Jasmine uses to target lymphatic drainage and metabolic boost.
We believe that weight loss should never be a lonely or clinical process. It should be a journey of rediscovering your strength. This is why we created the CURVE Collective.
CURVE Collective: Sexy, Curvy, Cool!

The CURVE Collective is our premier, personalized program for women who are ready to stop the cycle of yo-yo dieting and start healing from the inside out. We combine medical supervision, metabolic psychiatry, and mindful movement like Jasmine’s flow to help you reach your goals safely and permanently.
Why 2 PM Changes Everything
Think about your typical 2 PM. Maybe you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, maybe you're scrolling through your phone, or maybe you're reaching for a snack you don't even really want.
Now, imagine that at 2 PM, you spend 15 to 20 minutes with Jasmine. You stretch out the tension in your neck. You take five deep, intentional breaths. You move your body in a way that feels good, not painful.
By 2:20 PM, your cortisol has dropped. Your brain is clear. Your "hungry brain" has been quieted because you’ve addressed the underlying stress that was triggering the hunger. You finish your workday with energy left over for your family, and you go into dinner feeling calm rather than ravenous.
That is the power of mindful movement for weight loss. It changes the trajectory of your entire day, which eventually changes the trajectory of your life.
