Hello there! I’m Nurse Jenny, and I am so thrilled to welcome you to the first installment of our new clinical series here at Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc. If you’ve been looking for a compassionate, evidence-based approach to weight management that actually honors the connection between your mind and your body, you are in the right place.
As a nurse dedicated to your wellness, I’ve seen firsthand how revolutionary GLP-1 medications can be. But I’ve also seen how overwhelming the information can feel. That’s why I’ve created this "Ultimate Guide", to strip away the jargon and give you the clear, actionable steps you need to succeed. This is Part 1 of our three-part series, and today, we’re focusing on the foundational advantages of GLP-1 therapy and how our telehealth model makes your journey easier than ever.
Meet Nurse Jenny: Your Partner in Wellness

Before we dive into the science, I want you to know who is walking this path with you. I believe that healthcare should be warm, accessible, and deeply personal. My goal is to provide a safe space where you feel heard and supported. We aren't just looking at numbers on a scale; we are looking at your metabolic health, your emotional well-being, and your lifestyle.
In our CURVE Collective initiative, we celebrate the mantra: Sexy, Curvy, Cool! We believe every woman deserves to feel confident and vibrant in her own skin, and my job is to provide the clinical expertise to help you get there safely.
What is GLP-1 and Why is Everyone Talking About It?
GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) is not a "miracle pill" or a "short cut." It is an evidence-based medical tool that mimics a hormone your body naturally produces. This hormone plays a critical role in regulating your appetite and your blood sugar.
When we use GLP-1 medications, like those we discuss in our guide to oral GLP-1 options, we are essentially helping your brain and your gut communicate more effectively. For many of our clients, this means the "food noise" finally stays quiet. You can find more about the conditions we treat on our Conditions page.
The Telehealth Advantage
At Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., we know how busy life is. You shouldn't have to spend hours in a waiting room to get high-quality care. Our telehealth platform allows you to:
- Connect with clinical experts from the comfort of your home.
- Receive personalized medication management.
- Access mental health support that addresses emotional eating.
- Schedule appointments that fit your life through our online booking system.

The Success Pillars: How to Thrive on GLP-1
Taking the medication is just the first step. To see lasting results and feel your best, you need a strategy. Here are the three pillars of GLP-1 success that I share with all my clients.
1. Nutrition: Prioritize Protein and Fiber
When your appetite decreases, every bite you take matters more. You want to ensure you are nourishing your body, not just eating less.
- Protein is King: Aim for approximately 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. For most women, this looks like 20 to 30 grams of protein per meal. Why? Protein helps preserve lean muscle mass while you lose fat. Think lean poultry, fish, Greek yogurt, and legumes.
- The Fiber Factor: Fiber is your best friend for managing digestion and staying full. Women should aim for at least 25 grams of fiber daily. This helps manage constipation, which is a common side effect of GLP-1 therapy.
2. Hydration: The 2-3 Liter Rule
Hydration is non-negotiable. GLP-1 medications can sometimes make it easy to forget to drink water. I recommend carrying a reusable bottle and aiming for 2–3 liters (68–101 ounces) of water daily. This supports your metabolism and keeps your energy levels steady.
3. Movement: Strength Over Cardio
While walking is wonderful, strength training is the "secret sauce." I encourage my clients to engage in strength training at least two days a week. Building muscle helps maintain your metabolic rate, ensuring that your weight loss is sustainable in the long run.

Why Clinical Supervision Matters
You might see GLP-1s advertised in many places, but having a clinical safety net is vital. At Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., we specialize in Metabolic Psychiatry. This means we understand that your physical health and your mental health are two sides of the same coin.
Using these medications without expert guidance can lead to muscle loss or nutritional deficiencies. We provide the clinical oversight needed to ensure you are losing weight healthily and happily. You can read more about why this supervision is essential in our blog post on the GLP-1 safety net.

The Mental Health Connection: Food, Mood, and Biology
Why does a psychiatry practice offer weight loss support? Because we know that the "Hungry Brain" is real. Often, what we perceive as a lack of willpower is actually a complex biological response to stress, trauma, or chemical imbalances.
If you struggle with trauma or substance abuse, your relationship with food might be a coping mechanism. By combining GLP-1 therapy with psychotherapy, we address the root cause of the weight struggle. We believe that your mind is the ultimate key to permanent weight loss.
