By Nurse Jenny
Welcome back to the third and final installment of our series following my personal journey through the world of metabolic health. If you’ve been following along, you know that this hasn’t just been about a number on a scale, it’s been about reclaiming my life, my energy, and my mental clarity.
When we talk about weight loss for women, the conversation often gets stuck on "eat less, move more." But as a nurse and someone who has lived through the struggle, I can tell you that advice is far too simple for the complex lives we lead. Today, I’m sharing the most impactful lessons I’ve learned, the results that surprised me, and how you can stay motivated when the road gets tough.
The Reality of Results: More Than Just a Dress Size
When I started this journey, I had a specific goal in mind. I wanted to feel comfortable in my clothes again. But as the weeks turned into months, the results I started seeing were far more profound than just physical changes.
The first thing I noticed wasn't a drop in weight, but a lift in my mood. By focusing on my metabolic health rather than just calorie counting, I stopped experiencing those mid-afternoon crashes. My "brain fog" lifted. I was able to show up for my patients and my family with a level of presence I hadn’t felt in years.

In the world of weight loss for women, we often overlook the biological connection between what we eat and how we feel. This is why at Caring Hearts Psychiatry Inc., we focus on the "Hungry Brain." It’s about understanding if your hunger is coming from your body’s needs, your current mood, or your underlying biology.
If you want to dive deeper into why these results happen, I highly recommend checking out why Nurse Jenny’s results will change the way you approach weight loss for women.
Lesson 1: Protein and Fiber are Non-Negotiable
One of the biggest shifts I made was moving away from restrictive dieting and toward "nutrient crowding." Instead of focusing on what I couldn't have, I focused on hitting my protein and fiber goals every single day.
For women, protein is essential for maintaining lean muscle mass, especially as we age. Fiber keeps us full and supports a healthy gut microbiome. When I started prioritizing beef, chicken, fish, and high-fiber vegetables, my cravings for processed sugars began to vanish. I wasn't fighting my willpower; I was feeding my biology what it actually needed to feel satisfied.
Lesson 2: Mindful Movement Trumps Exhausting Workouts
For years, I thought I had to spend an hour on a treadmill to see results. I was wrong. The best advice I ever got was to integrate mindful movement that actually fits into a busy schedule.
I started following Instructor Jasmine’s techniques. Her "2 PM Flow" became a staple in my day. Instead of reaching for a sugary snack when the afternoon slump hit, I spent a few minutes focusing on intentional movement. This didn't just burn a few calories; it reset my nervous system and stopped stress-eating in its tracks.
You can learn more about how to integrate mindful movement for weight loss into your afternoon flow to see how small changes lead to big results.
Lesson 3: Clinical Support is a Game Changer
There is no shame in seeking medical help for weight loss. In fact, for many women, it is the missing piece of the puzzle. Whether it’s managing PCOS, navigating hormonal shifts, or utilizing evidence-based tools like GLP-1 medications, having a clinical team behind you makes the journey safer and more effective.
In my journey, having access to a team that understood the intersection of psychiatry and metabolic health was vital. We offer a structured, evidence-based approach that looks at the whole person. If you've ever wondered if you need more than just a diet plan, read about the truth about GLP-1, PCOS, and women’s wellness and nutrition.

Staying Motivated When the Plateau Hits
Let’s be honest: motivation is a feeling, and feelings are fleeting. There will be weeks when the scale doesn't move. There will be days when you feel like giving up. Here is how I stayed the course:
- Focus on Non-Scale Victories (NSVs): Did you sleep better? Is your skin clearer? Do you have more energy to play with your kids? These wins are just as important as the numbers.
- Community Support: You cannot do this alone. Surrounding yourself with other women who are on the same path is essential. This is why we created the CURVE Collective.
- The 80/20 Rule: I stopped trying to be perfect. If I had a meal that wasn't "on plan," I didn't let it ruin my week. I simply made the next best choice.
- Listen to Your Brain: Understanding the "Food, Mood, or Biology" framework helped me realize that a "relapse" into old eating habits was usually just a sign that my stress levels were too high or my protein was too low.
